Euro-Zone Exports Jump

A surge in exports in June boosted the euro zone’s trade surplus to its highest on record, giving a boost to hopes that demand from other countries could help drag the region out of its economic downturn.

But weak growth in imports to the currency bloc highlighted the sluggish state of its economy, hit by years of government austerity and rising unemployment.

Eurostat, the European Union’s statistics agency, said Friday exports from the 17 euro-area nations to the rest of the world rose 12% …
