VIDEO: 2011: The year of the solo artist

There is no doubt that one of the most talked about singers in 2011 has been the 23-year-old Londoner Adele.

Her album, 21, has been an international success.

But while she and other solo artists ruled the charts and the airwaves it has been harder than ever for guitar bands to break through in the music industry.
